Gesso panels for painting in egg tempera

Our gesso panels are made in the traditional way using  gesso made from French Whiting and rabbits skin glue. They are hand sanded to provide a fine white ground.

Our standard size boards are 9mm thick MDF with a bevelled edge. The panels are finished with 8 coats of gesso on the front and 5-6 on the back.

We also offer a board with muslin sized to the panel beneath the gesso.

You can order from our standard range, or choose your own size and thickness of panel. We also make icon panels with an integral frame and panels using birch-faced ply.

The gesso panels are made for painting in egg tempera, but are also very successful for pencil drawing.

We can also make a gesso board especially for painting in oils, with linseed oil added.
